What a year it has been at VCO!
In November, we had our super fun collaboration with the Contemporary School of Dance. We chose The Child and The Spells by Ravel, featuring our largest cast of singers yet!
As the holidays rolled around, we celebrated with song and drink, leading our first-ever Sip & Sing event at Idea Exchange in Galt. Everyone got together to sing some holiday tunes and sip some hot chocolate... with a bit of Baileys.
We also launched our first-ever learn-to-sing program, Sing Your Heart Out! in partnership with Idea Exchange. The program offered inclusive group sessions for locals with an interest in singing.
February featured our second show of the year, the double bill of Rapunzel & Dino Opera. The brand new operas were big hits at our mainstage shows, and also at the middle schools where they were performed.
For arts organizations, COVID-19 meant disruptions and changes to their regular schedules. At VCO,
this meant adapting our summer productions. So in August, our Community Opera Fest show was turned into an audio recording. We're so excited to share that performance with you, so stay tuned on our social media to see when it goes live!
If you missed any of the shows this season or want to experience shows from past seasons, you can watch the performances at vcopera.ca/spotlight.
One of our big announcements for next season was our brand new admissions model: pay-as-you-go.
You can reserve online for free or just come directly to the door, enter, and enjoy the show. At the end of the performance, you have the opportunity to donate to VCO. This new initiative is one of the many steps we're taking this season to ensure our shows are as accessible as possible for the whole community.
And, we've got lots of exciting plans in store for November too - so you can rest assured knowing you will have quality, community-focused opera at the tips of your fingers.
