There's a place for you.

Vera Causa Opera is a community opera organization. That means that if an individual is looking for a chance to be involved, either on or off-stage, we will make it happen. New this year, we have launched the VCO Chorus, giving singers from all levels of experience a chance to take the stage at VCO.

Numerous opportunities are available behind the scenes, too. Try being a Stage Director, a Set Designer, a Costumer, or a Makeup Artist! You may have extensive formal training, or you may simply have an interest in trying. No matter the experience level, VCO seeks to give you a chance to ‘get your feet wet’ in the world of opera.

Finally, being part of VCO is a team sport. Everyone who takes part in our productions takes part in a community, a community which creates a positive, risk-free exploratory, collaborative, and welcoming environment.

"I am very grateful to Vera Causa Opera, who provided me with extraordinary opportunities in their 2016/17 season, just when I was starting my first audition year. Being a part of their two remarkable productions - as La Marquise de Berkenfield in La Fille du Regiment and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni - has been an important step for me in my artistic journey. VCO gave me the valuable experience of singing roles with orchestra for an enthusiastic and supportive local audience of both long-time and first-time opera attendees. Being on that stage has been both inspiring and rewarding. At Vera Causa Opera, I have always felt confident in making artistic choices and being truthful to myself, while still getting the necessary guidance and full support of the VCO team who are a constant joy to work with."

"In relation to my development as an artist and as a person, my experience with Vera Causa Opera has been an extremely important one to say the least. My very first operatic performances and opportunities were with this company, and remain to this day some of the most entertaining and most informative experiences of my young performing life.

VCO strives for high quality work while making opera, a niche and occasionally high-browed art form, more accessible to a larger and more contemporary audience. The company prides itself on presenting these timeless pieces, as well as original Canadian works, in ways that do not alienate or belittle musically uneducated audiences. VCO welcomes all, and encourages a casual and relaxed mindset while walking through the doors and into your seat.

Performance opportunities are few and far between for emerging musicians, especially when you’re still in school and your vocal development is in the throes of puberty (just an expression). We often have to pay through the nose for any sort of role/experience we can put on our resumes, and the opportunity to work with an orchestra is even more rare. VCO gives emerging singers like myself the chance to apply our skills in and real-world setting which is both comfortable, and educational . It allows singers to begin to realize their full potential, and gives them an idea of how to conduct themselves in professional settings.

My time with VCO has been an invaluable experience, and has taught me so much, not only about my craft, but about myself as well."
